September 3-7, 2006: Gold 2006, Limerick, Ireland (http://www.gold2006.org/ )

The field of gold science and technology continues to undergo an exciting period of discovery. Scientists and technologists in academia and industry around the world gathered at an international conference, Gold 2006, at Limerick, Ireland, to discuss important fundamental science and new industrial applications for gold. Stephanie Lim, a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow of Binghamton University, won the Best Poster Award in this Conference. Her poster described her latest discoveries in the investigation of molecularly-mediated assemblies gold nanoparticles towards functional nanomaterials, a cutting-edge area that promises important applications of gold-based nanotechnology in sensors, biosensors, medical diagnostics, drug delivery, and information storage.
