ADMISSIONS AND FINANCIAL AID

The Graduate School in Binghamton accepts students for the MA, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. In Chemistry, there is also a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) available through the School of Education. The graduate program in Chemistry considers students on a rolling basis throughout the year. Both September and January admission is possible. Admission to the graduate program is based on transcripts, letters of recommendation, and GRE scores. The subject test in chemistry is also requested. Special considerations are also taken into account.

Foreign students, whose native language is not English, are also required to submit their TOEFL score; applications with a TOEFL under 600 will not be considered. You are encouraged to apply on-line at the Graduate School, http://gradschool.binghamton.edu.

The admission of students from Asia is highly competitive. To be competitive you will need a TOEFL score of at least 600, a combined TOEFL and verbal GRE score of at least 1150, and a combined GRE score over 2000 (verbal, quantitative and analytical). A high score on the subject test will also help.

Graduate students are supported in the first year through Teaching Assistantships (TA), and in subsequent years through Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), and fellowships that are available. Stipends offered through these programs are competitive with those offered by other universities. Summer support is also available. Typical full year stipends range from $21,000 to $25,000, and you will also receive a full tuition scholarship. You can expect full funding for at least 4 years (subject to satisfactory progress), and the median time to the PhD degree for our students is near 5 years if you enter with a BS. Masters degrees are typically completed in 2 years.

All applicants should apply on-line through the Graduate School web-site
